It seems to be that time of year again, where we celebrate with family and friends and marvel at how the year has passed so quickly.

It is a time for rituals and traditions, some old and some new. We are local carpet cleaners Melbourne and with three young children, we really enjoy the wonder and magic that this time of year brings and we are enjoying creating our own special Christmas traditions. In our family we don’t have a traditional Christmas tree, instead we choose interesting branches found on our walks to and from our local Melbourne school.  We decorate these branches with hand made ornaments made by my wife and children over the past few years. Each child so proud of their own unique creation.

If you do happen to have a living tree, make sure you lay some plastic or protective fabric on the floor under the tree to protect your carpet from spills. Also make sure the tree is secure in a bucket of water filled with small rocks or a Christmas tree cradle. This is so it doesn’t tip over and cause water damage to your carpet.

If you do have an accident with the water make sure you soak up as much of the water as possible with old towels and try to dry the area with a fan or heater.  Do not stand on the area as this will force the water down into the underlay. Papier Mache Magic!

Another favourite tradition of ours is the Christmas Pinata! We make a pinata every year from a balloon and papier mache. The kids love getting hands on with the flour paste glue, they enjoy the creative process. It takes a week or so to get all the layers on and painted. My wife however, does not enjoy the clean up afterwards! We grin and bear it when we see the look pure joy on their faces and to be honest we love to see them working co-cooperatively rather than the usual sibling bickering.
