Inspection & Pre‑Assessment
We inspect each rug to choose the right cleaning approach and discuss any specific issues (e.g., stains or pet odour).
Pre‑Treatment
Tough spots and stains are pre‑treated to maximise cleaning results.
Deep Hot Water Extraction
Our steam cleaning system removes embedded dirt, allergens and odours from rug fibres safely and effectively.
Drying & Grooming
Rugs dry quickly when properly ventilated — synthetic fibres dry faster, while wool may take a little longer.
We safely and effectively clean:
Synthetic fibre rugs
Everyday area rugs
Rugs with common stains, spills or pet odours
Note: Some delicate fibres such as silk, viscose, jute or handmade Oriental rugs may be better suited to specialist off‑site rug washing.

Please note, that pet urine odour (especially from cats) is particularly difficult to remove from rugs. Because we surface clean the top side of the rug only, we cannot always remove pet urine that has soaked all the way through to the backing.
In cases of extreme staining, we may recommend that you contact a rug wash for a deep clean. A professional Rug Wash facility can wash your rug, using a full immersion method. This depends on the type of rug and the amount of urine. Long pile and shaggy rugs will require a full immersion wash at a rug wash facility, to remove pet urine Most of these rug wash services can pick up your rug and return it after cleaning.
Rugs that have been damaged by flooding, mould or insects such as moths, may require specialist repair and treatment. In this instance, we will usually refer you to a rug specialist for repair and off site cleaning.
We clean most types of rugs however, not all fibres respond well to steam cleaning or wet cleaning. In particular viscose rugs require very gentle cleaning methods and cannot be cleaned using water or steam as the fibres are very weak and are easily damaged. Silk rugs can also be damaged by wet cleaning and lose their beautiful sheen if not cleaned with care. Natural grass rugs made from fibres such as sisal or jute also cannot be steam cleaned. If in doubt, we will always refer you to a specialist rug cleaner. We do not clean animal hide rugs.

General house hold stains and spills can be removed in most instances when you have your rug steam cleaned by Black Gold. We may need to treat some stains with specialty stain removers and this may incur a small additional fee. Generally we can remove pet stains, however if the urine has soaked into the backing of the rug, we may not be able to completely remove odour, so we may refer you to a rug wash facility in this case.
No we only clean the top surface. We do not clean the underside of the rug as the backing weave is what gives the rug structure and if it remains wet for too long it can cause damage to this structure resulting in stretching or breakage. stains and/or odour on the backing of the rug can only be removed by a full immersion wash and quick dry at a rug wash facility.
It really depends on the size and condition of the rug. Most standard living room rugs (2 X3m) start at around $50-$60 each.
Yes. As we use low water pressure to minimise moisture and we only clean the top surface, we can safely clean most rugs on the floorboards without causing any damage to the floor underneath. As the rug fibres dry, evapouration draws the water up the fibre to the surface, rather than down to the floor.
Drying times do vary depending on the length of the pile, the type of fibre and the weather/ventilation. However most synthetic fibre rugs are dry in 2-4 hours but long pile, wool rugs may take a little longer to dry – 4-6 hours.
